Adaptation & Resilience Plan
Adaptation & Resilience Plan
Climate Ready Truckee

As part of the Truckee 2040 General Plan Update, the Town and its partners developed Climate Ready Truckee: A Climate Change Adaptation Plan. This plan identifies the key climate risks facing the region, and determines how these will impact our community. Through workshops, online surveys, and a multi-sector steering committee, local values and priorities were used to build actions to make our community resilient and adaptable to the impacts of climate change.

Additional Materials
The plan identifies climate hazards facing Truckee, including declining snowpack, hotter summers, more frequent extreme storms, drought, and wildfires.

Adaptation Strategies
Based on identified vulnerabilities, the plan identifies specific strategies and actions to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Many of the goals, strategies, and actions within this plan provide benefits to the community regardless of climate change, thereby strengthening the community as a whole.
Strategies and actions are identified to support:
- Healthy residents: preparing for heatwaves and wildfire smoke by safeguarding vulnerable groups
- Natural capital: enhancing ecosystem services, protecting and restoring native habitats and species, and creating wildfire resistance and resilience
- Sustainable business: increasing business sustainability and ensuring green jobs and living wages
- Resilient infrastructure: improving energy reliability and protecting homes and businesses
- Community readiness: coordination and emergency preparedness
Each strategy is aligned with Truckee’s broader Climate Action Plan, and is incorporated into the Town’s 2040 General Plan Safety Element, Chapter 8 – Safety and Noise – Updated 2025 (PDF). This integrated approach aims to make Truckee climate-ready for future generations.
