Reuse & Repair Home

Build a circular economy. Support local. Waste less.

Every item we reuse, repair, or repurpose keeps valuable materials out of the landfill and extends the life of the things we already own. Whether you’re patching a jacket, renting skis, or buying second-hand, you’re making a big difference, especially in a small mountain town like Truckee.

Why Does Reuse & Repair Matter?

Americans send over 140 million tons of waste to landfills every year. Much of it is still usable. Reusing and repairing items diverts waste and reduces demand for new resources.

Save Money

Fixing or buying second-hand is almost always cheaper than buying new, and in Truckee, local shops make it easy to do just that.

Protect Natural Resources

Mining, manufacturing, shipping, and packaging all consume resources and emit carbon. Reuse and repair slow down the consumption cycle and reduce our environmental impact.

Build Community & Resilience

Supporting local repair professionals, second-hand stores, and rental businesses strengthens Truckee’s circular economy and keeps your dollars in the community.

Truckee’s Role in a More Sustainable Future

Truckee is a mountain town that values stewardship of our land, water, and community. That’s why we’re building tools like the Truckee Reuse & Repair Map to connect residents and visitors with practical ways to shop sustainably, repair instead of replace, and work towards a zero-waste lifestyle.

Fixit Clinics

If it’s broke, fix it! Let’s extend the life of our products, and keep them out of the landfill! Bring your broken electronics, furniture, clothing, outdoor gear, and more. “Fixit Coaches” from the Truckee Roundhouse will teach you how to repair your item. Fixit Clinics are FREE community events run by volunteers!

Repairing is a sustainable act that encourages reusing resources at hand rather than purchasing new. To date, Truckee Fixit Clinics have saved over 1,000 pounds of items from the landfill! We’ve repaired items from toaster ovens, wooden chairs, to lamps, puffy jackets and denim. Bring in what you got, our “Fixit Coaches” are up for the challenge! But even if the item isn’t fixed, there’s a valuable educational aspect to understanding why it stopped working.

Textiles and clothing repairs are limited to 3 items per person. Please note that there is often a wait for Fixit Coaches to assist with clothing & textiles due to the popularity of these items. Thank you for your patience and understanding as our amazing volunteers make an effort to support all attendees!

When? Held bi-annually in April and October. Check our Calendar of Events for exact date information.

Where? Truckee Roundhouse – located near Tahoe Food Hub at the Truckee Airport
12116 Chandelle Way Suite E3, Truckee, CA

All tools provided, and all ages welcome!

Be sure to also check out our free Monthly Mending & Repair Workshops for clothing and textiles!

Mending & Repair Workshops

Let’s mend, not end. Sponsored by Keep Truckee Green, these FREE workshops at the Truckee Roundhouse will teach you how to repair your clothing instead of throwing it away. Together, we can reduce textile waste while learning new skills.

All classes are open to students aged 12 – adult, at any experience level, especially beginners. Students under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Tools and sewing machines are provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own if they want to learn how to use their own machine. Roundhouse has a large selection of donated fabrics, threads, and notions for student use, but students may also bring their own to match their specific project. Participants should bring clothing or textile items needing repair.

Participants must register in advance to reserve their space at TruckeeRoundhouse.Org/Schedule.

The goal of this series is to support our Truckee community in learning new repair skills and to give our products a second life, reducing waste and keeping items out the landfills.
