Recycling Used Oil and Filters

Changing your oil at home? Make sure to recycle your used oil and filters. Used oil and filters should never be placed in any curbside trash container.

Two used oil filters and a 24 hour timer.

1. Place used oil into a container and drain oil filters for 24 hours.

2. Place oil filter into a plastic bag or bucket for transportation.

3. Bring your used oil container and filters to a certified collection center during business hours.

Do not mix oil. Oil mixed with any other liquid, including water, must be treated as hazardous waste and be taken to a hazardous waste collection facility, such as the Eastern Regional Landfill.

Need a free oil change kit? Pick one up for free at Town Hall (Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).

Oil change kits include:

Oil Container

Place used oil into container and drain filter for 24 hours.

Oil-Only Pad

Place pad under work area while changing oil to prevent spills. (Pad does not absorb non-oil liquids, such as water)

Funnel

Use to pour new oil in. Wipe off with your oil only pad to clean. Do not use water!

Plastic Bag

Place drained oil filter into bag for transport to a CCC.
