Truckee, A Clean California Community
Promoting clean, safe, and vibrant public spaces through community-driven action
The Town of Truckee is proud to be recognized as one of the first 30 Clean California Communities, a designation awarded to cities and towns that demonstrate leadership in public space beautification, litter reduction, and environmental stewardship.
This honor reflects Truckee’s continued efforts to maintain clean, welcoming outdoor areas, support public art, and inspire community involvement.
What is Clean California?
Clean California is a statewide initiative aimed at removing litter, creating jobs, and beautifying California’s public spaces. The program invests in litter collection, community engagement, and education. Since its inception, Clean California has removed over 2.9 million cubic yards of litter and created approximately 18,000 jobs across the state.
Clean California Community Designation
By becoming a Clean California Community, Truckee joins a network of other communities dedicated to environmental stewardship and public space enhancement. This designation brings state recognition of Truckee’s commitment to litter reduction and public space beautification and funding opportunities to continue this important work.
To earn this designation, communities must:
- Take the Pledge: Commit to the principles of the Clean California Community program, aiming for a cleaner, greener community.
- Engage the Community: Involve residents, local organizations, and businesses in cleanup and beautification efforts.
- Meet Criteria: Complete at least 10 out of 15 specified criteria within one year, such as implementing litter abatement plans, conducting regular cleanups, and tracking litter removal metrics.
