Trails, Bike Lanes & Sidewalks

This information tracks how many miles of paved trails, bike lanes and sidewalks the Town of Truckee contains.

“The Trails and Bikeways Master Plan” details the future expansion of bike paths throughout Truckee. Expansion of our trail system increases the ability of Truckee residents and visitors to bike throughout and around Town.

What you can do: Use new and existing bike paths, and let the Town know when paths require maintenance.

This information tracks how many miles of paved trails, bike lanes and sidewalks the Town of Truckee contains.

Class 1 refers to both multi-use paved trails and sidewalks. Class 1 trails are generally wide and are great for walking, running, dog walking, biking, and equestrian.

Class 2 refers to designated bike lanes. These trails are typically used by road bikers and offer a paved lane (usually 5 feet wide) that is striped to keep cars and trucks separated from bikers.

Class 3 refers to bike routes and roads that allow room for bikers due to the size of the shoulder. These, however, are not necessarily striped and do not offer the same degree of separation from moving traffic as class 2 trails.

When there are more trails, bike lanes, and sidewalks in Truckee, residents can easily walk, bike, or even ski around Truckee. These active alternatives not only help keep the town healthy, but also reduce traffic, increase air quality, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions created by cars.
