Open Space

The Town is partnering with the Truckee Donner Land Trust to acquire and preserve the 26-acre Bright Property open space in Downtown Truckee. In 2019, the Town committed $500,000 for the acquisition of this property. We are currently developing plans for a pedestrian bridge, trailhead, and Legacy Trail connection, which will provide a permanent downtown open space and access to the Truckee River.

The Town’s Development Code provides open space requirements for new development. The 2040 General Plan update process also provides Truckee the opportunity to rezone certain strategic parcels to open space.

This information tracks acres of land within our Town’s limits that are protected as permanent open space. This data will be reported on an annual basis.

Strategically preserving open space towards the outer limits of town helps to encourage denser development within its core, preventing suburban sprawl and maintaining the beautiful surroundings that make Truckee feel like home to everyone.

This information is tracked annually by planning applications, including land protected as permanent open space under Development Code open space requirements; Zoning Map data show the number of parcels zoned as open space, plus the Truckee Donner Land Trust inventory of open space projects as well as the assessor’s data.
