LED Lighting Retrofit
In 2018, the Town conducted an energy efficiency audit of all Town facilities to identify projects and activities to reduce energy usage. A LED lighting retrofit was identified as an opportunity to save energy by utilizing energy efficient LED light fixtures. LEDs use up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.
In 2021, the Town completed the retrofit project, converting all Town lights to LED fixtures. The project included converting approximately 650 fixtures across the Animal Shelter, Stevens Lane Corp Yard, Tahoe Donner Corp Yard, Downtown Train Depot, Town Hall, and street lights. The project is saving over 77,039 kWh/year — equivalent to GHG emission savings from preventing 11.8 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles from driving for one year!
